The International Society for Ecological Economics (ISEE) is a not-for-profit, member-governed, organization dedicated to advancing understanding of the relationships among ecological, social, and economic systems for the mutual well-being of nature and people.

The ISEE was founded in 1989. Its presidents have been Bob Costanza, Dick Norgaard, John Proops, Charles Perrings, and now, Joan Martinez-Alier (for 2006 and 2007). The president-elect for 2008-09 is Peter May. Other members of the Board are Joan Roughgarden, Wendy Proctor, John Gowdy, Luciana Togeiro and Pushpam Kumar.

The Society assists its members and ecological economists, regional societies of ecological economics, related societies, and other organizations in such matters of common concern as can be dealt with more effectively by united action. To this end, the Society publishes a research journal, books, and other materials; holds and sponsors scientific meetings; develops educational materials; and facilitates a voice for ecological economists in public forums.

It also publishes the Ecological Economics Encyclopedia on its Web site, and a quarterly newsletter.
